HDM's trailer in the trailer park.
De-Rigging Steps For LS6-b ŇHDMÓ These de-rigging steps are to assist with HDM being put in its trailer without damage. Following these steps should mean that it will able to fly the next day (and there shouldnŐt be damage or losses to be paid for). TRAILER PREPARATION 1. With the trailer still on the carŐs towbar unscrew (remove) the large red handled locating bolt under the front of the trailer. Partially raise the front of the trailer by winding the jack handle. Open tail-fin door. Lower rear door (tail-gate). Jack-up front of trailer until the bracket on the rear door encounters the ground. 2. Remove tailplane stand and lay down on LHS of trailer (stand will go under left wing for de-rigging). 3. Unscrew clamp on rear door ramp (store safely) and fold ramp out. Adjust height of ramp jack so that ramp just lifts off rear door. 4. Roll out fuselage cradle onto rear door ramp. Fold in the cradle-stop on LHS of rear door ramp to locate cradle (if not done it will be difficult to position fuselage correctly in cradle). 5. Remove wing root dollies from trailer. Sit on each side of rear door with locating pins inserted in square tubes. 6. Remove (30 mm diameter) taped plastic tube pair (for storage of main pins) from box in front of trailer and place in cockpit in readiness for removal of wings. 7. If necessary, remove tail-fin bracket in fin box and store bracket pointing forward in right post with yellow paint pointing to rear of trailer. Store both pins securely. 8. If necessary, unclip wing-tip clamps on each side of trailer and lift to top of square tubes and reclip pointing to rear (so as not to be in the way as the wing is rolled in). COCKPIT AREA 9. Remove battery and store in safe place. 10. Undo both water ballast plastic nuts in front of spar roots. 11. Disconnect the four flaperon and dive brake couplings behind the spar roots: a. wind cylindrical sleeve away from snap coupling, b. depress snap slide and lift coupling away from ball. 12. Remove plastic tape from wing-fuselage joints. Use old tape to tape down each dive-brake so it wonŐt vibrate out during trailering. DISMANTLING OF GLIDER 13. Line-up fuselage with cradle. Pull fuselage into cradle so that the back edge of the cradle is in-line with the middle of the blue sloping trim lines on the fuselage. 14. Put tailplane stand under left wing about 3 m in from tip to act as wing stand. 15. Wind-up rear door ramp jack so that main wheel is clear of the ground. Retract under-carriage. Tail 16. Remove upper total energy tube from tail-fin and store in cockpit (IMPORTANT - otherwise tube will be bent when fuselage is rolled into trailer - EXPENSIVE!). 17. Remove sealing tape from fin-tailplane joint and then remove tailplane: a. Through access hole in top surface of tailplane use a 10˘ piece to carefully wind the large slotted nut towards left-hand tip. At the same time gently rock tailplane tip forwards and back to break grip of tailplane tapered mounts (IMPORTANT - otherwise unwinding of slotted nut can damage itself - DANGEROUS and INCONVENIENT!), b. Lift tailplane up at front and lift away towards rudder. 18. Store tailplane in tailplane stand (should be under left-wing by now). Right Wing 19. With the tailplane stand under the left wing, pull out the two main pins and store in taped plastic tube pair. 20. Remove right wing and attach to wing-root dolly. Roll wing into trailer and, when fully in, lower onto leading edge support half way along trailer. 21. Through front door of trailer, check that locating bolt of wing-root dolley is through trailer bracket. Insert safety pin (on chain) through locating bolt hole and secure with over-centre ring. 22. Back at rear of trailer, clip wing-tip clamp over trailing edge of wing-tip. Left Wing 23. After removing tailplane stand, repeat steps 20 - 22 for left wing. FUSELAGE & TAILPLANE STAND 24. Feed cord through spar root opening in fuselage and clip to cradle leg. 25. IMPORTANT: check upper pitot tube in tail-fin has been removed (see 16). 26. Secure canopy. Fold out cradle stop on LHS of of rear door ramp. Lift tail and roll fuselage into trailer. 27. Fit tailplane bracket over tail-fin in fin box (matching the yellow colours) and insert and secure both safety pins. 28. Slide tailplane stand into trailer on RHS of fuselage ensuring it engages both securing pins on floor. 29. Before folding rear door ramp back onto the door, make sure the ramp jack is wound fully down (IMPORTANT - otherwise the jack could damage the rudder when the rear door is closed - EXPENSIVE!). 30. Lift and clip rear door. Close and lock fin box door. At front of trailer wind jack down. Screw in and tighten red handled locating bolt. Finally, lock front door. 31. LOOK AROUND. HAS ANYTHING BEEN LEFT ON TOP OF TRAILER, OR ON THE GROUND? Robert Dorning January 6, 2007
